Vic Bergman | Squadron Leader Vic Bergman DFC Vaclav Bergman made his escape from Czechoslovakia after the Germans took over in March 1939 and went to Poland. In September 1939 Bergman escaped to France and joined LArmee de LAir. After a further escape from France he came to England where he was commissioned in the RAFVR, joining 310 Squadron on June 12th at its formation. In the Duxford Wing he found Bader a leader he admired and trusted whose leadership cut across all nationalities. In September, Bergman claimed a Bf110 destroyed on the 9th and shared a Ju88 on the 18th. Bergman went on to command 313 Squadron. Bergman remained in the RAF after the war and received a Mention in Dispatches for distinguished service in Malaya. |
