Only 50 prints are to be issued in this highly collectible limited edition, reproduced from a specially commissioned drawing by Robert Taylor. A rare opportunity to collect one of just 50 limited edition prints, each complete with the original signature of Sir Douglas Bader KBE DSO* DFC* . One of the most famous fighter Aces of World War II, Douglas Bader joined the RAF in 1928. A fearless aerobatic flyer, his luck ran out when his aircraft crashed attempting a slow roll. He lost both legs, and his career in the RAF was, for the time being, over.

At the outbreak of World War II however, his persistence persuaded the RAF to let him fly again, this time with artificial legs. Joining 19 Squadron in February 1940, he soon scored his first victory. A brilliant fighter leader, he was given command of 242 Squadron and led them throughout the Battle of Britain. Posted to Tangmere in 1941 Bader was one of the first Wing Leaders. Bader's luck again ran out on August 9, 1941, when he was brought down over St. Omer, France. Bader was taken prisoner, ending up in Colditz for the rest of the war. He scored 20 and shared 4 victories.

BADER LEGEND. The Inspired Fighter Leader.
A COLLECTORS EDITION SIGNED BY FOUR FAMOUS ACES WHO FLEW WITH DOUGLAS BADER IN WWII

The loss of both legs in a flying accident brought Douglas Bader's promising flying career to an abrupt end in 1931. However the outbreak of war saw Bader reinstated to the RAF and, complete with artificial legs, piloting a Spitfire in the thick of the action at the time of Dunkirk.

With the Battle of Britain imminent, Bader was given command of a depleted squadron of young demoralised Canadian pilots following the fall of France. When assigned a new squadron commander with no legs, the pilots of 242 Squadron became even more despondent. Typically, Bader quickly dispelled their doubts with a brilliant and daring aerobatic demonstration in his Hurricane, and within a few weeks the dynamic Squadron Leader transformed the dispirited Canadians into one of the RAF's elite fighter units.

By the time he became Wing Leader at Tangmere he was already a legend. Though his tenure was short - he was brought down over northern France on August 9, 1941 - Bader's inspired leadership spawned some of WWII's greatest fighter leaders - Johnnie Johnson, Denis Crowley-Milling, Stan Turner, 'Cocky' Dundas, and many others.

Robert Taylor's beautiful, atmospheric painting, the original canvas signed by Douglas Bader, offers a magnificent study of the legendary Wing Leader's MkV Spitfire.

With each print individually signed by four fighter Aces who flew in combat with Douglas Bader, this fine collector print will serve as a nostalgic memento of arguably the most charismatic fighter pilot of all time.

54(F) Squadron Farewell by Michael Rondot (GS)

54(F) Squadron Farewell by Michael Rondot (GS) A famous fighter squadron with a glorious history, No.54(F) Squadron began its distinguished career in the fierce fighting on the Western Front during World War I. In 1940, flying Spitfires, it was the highest scoring RAF fighter squadron in the Battle of Britain and went on to become one of the few squadrons to fly Spitfires operationally during the whole of World War II. Always a front line squadron, No.54(F) Squadron flew Tempests, Vampires, Meterors and Hunters before graduating from F4 Phantoms to Jaguars in 1974. Commanded by Wg Cdr Terry Carkton, it became the first RAF Jaguar Squadron at Coltishall, so continuing its tradition of flying only fighter/ground attack aircraft during its distinguished history.
