Buccaneer Strike Force by Philip West.

The Blackburn Buccaneer, in its heyday the worlds most advanced low-level, high-speed strike aircraft. The Buccaneer is remembered with affection and respect as a purposeful-looking, rock-steady aircraft offering a formidable strike weapons platform, flying low and fast over the wave-tops or land with equal effectiveness, on this occasion in the presence of HMS Ark Royal.

Blue -Fire! by Michael Rondot.

Buccaneer aircraft in action, launching a co-ordinated attack with Sea Eagle anti-ship sea-skimming missiles, the moment when the leader of the first element (callsign Blue) achieves his firing solution and initiates the ripple launch of his formations missiles by breaking radio silence with the traditional 208 Squadron radio call of Blue,-Fire! Nightmare scenario. Dusk over an empty sea. With lights out and in radio silence, three Buccaneers, each armed with 4 Sea-Eagle missiles, prepare to attack a Surface Action Group still beyond radar range. 150 miles away, three more Buccaneers are approaching the same target in a pincer attack timed to hit the target at exactly the same time. The first warning that the target will receive of the attack is when all 24 missile radar seekers switch on at close range for the final phase of the attack. Whilst the Buccaneers escape unseen, the defenses will be swamped with their worst nightmare - two volleys of missiles approaching without warning, at wave-top height, at 180 degrees to each other.

Buccaneer Thunder by Michael Rondot.

Built to fly low and fast over very long distances, the Buccaneer reigned supreme during the Cold War years both as a carrier-borne and land-based strike aircraft. For 30 years, first with the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm then with the Royal Air Force and the South African Air Force, the Buccaneers achievements in the low-level strike role approached the proportions of legend. Roy Boots classic design is unbeatable in many respects even by the latest and most potent fighters and this much-loved aircraft is still immensely popular. It enjoys a unique reputation as a tough and reliable shipyard foundry-built aircraft and is sorely missed by those who flew it or worked on it and regarded it as irreplaceable. Pressed into service at short notice during the Gulf War, the Buccaneer and its aircrews finally proved in the most spectacular manner what many had been saying for years, - that the Buccaneer was a truly outstanding machine that could only be replaced by another Buccaneer.

As a tribute to the mighty Buccaneer, artist Michael Rondot has painted in his Classic Combat Aircraft Series a striking and powerful image of a Buccaneer "smoking" at 540 knots at low level.

North Sea Sortie by Keith Aspinall  Buccaneer S2B "MccRobert's reply" of No. XV squadron flies over the North Sea.

Buccaneer Strike Force by Philip E West.  The Blackburn Buccaneer first entered service with the Royal Navy in July 1962.  Designed specifically to operate from the Royal Navy's aircraft carriers, with the ability to fly low and fats, the Buccaneer was also able to carry nuclear weapons for use against soviet naval targets.  Capable of flying 646mph at 200 feet the Buccaneer was a formidable low-level strike aircraft which quickly attracted admirers.  amongst them were the RAF and the South African Air Force, both of whom adopted the Blackburn Buccaneer for their land based operations.  just as the Buccaneer was facing retirement it was called into action again to play a vital role in Kuwait and Iraq during the 1991 Gulf War.

The Buccaneer  Designed for high-speed, deep penetration attacks at ultra low level, the Buccaneer has always been immensely popular with its aircrews. The design may be old, but the concept was brilliant, and the Buccaneer still retains a unique combination of range, war load and speed, unmatched by any other aircraft in RAF service. Pressed into service during the Gulf War, Buccaneers finally proved in the most spectacular manner what many had known for years - that the only suitable replacement aircraft for the Buccaneer is another Buccaneer.

Their Finest Hour by Nicolas Trudgian. (C)

Their Finest Hour by Nicolas Trudgian. (C) Situated on the south eastern tip of Kent, RAF Hawkinge was the most forward airfield in Fighter Command. It was not surprising therefore that when Reichmarshal Goering began his fierce attacks on airfields - part of his softening up campaign in preparation for Hitlers Adler Tag (Eagle Day) - Hawkinge would be among the first in his sights. The Luftwaffe were putting up massive raids - over 1700 aircraft crossed the coast on August 16th - and RAF bases in the south-east were taking a pounding. Hawkinge, a satellite of Biggin Hill sector station, and vital to front line defences, lay right in the path of the raiding Luftwaffe hordes. When on August 12th it was bombed for the first time, its effect was only to harden the resolve of its pilots and groundstaff. MkI Spitfires of No.610 County of Chester Squadron are seen scrambling out of RAF Hawkinge in late August 1940. refuelled and re-armed, with scarlet patches covering the gunports, all serviceable aircraft roar off the grass strip and head back to the fray. With aerial battles raging all the way from 2000 to 20,000 feet, within minutes they will be back in the action. Ground crews in the foreground work frantically to get more Spitfires airworthy. In the background Hurricanes from No.32 Squadron are at readiness, and will be called into action as the primitive radar picks up the next incoming raid
